I have often read similar posts to the one I am writing...grinned and moved
along but now I am really excited! This season I set up a twenty gallon "nursery" tank to try and give my plants a rest from the ravages of my hungry koi. As such I have been rotating plants in and out of said container all season. Well...this afternoon I walked out to check up on the Water Hyacinths and Parrot feather plants and saw a tiny fish swimming around! After a bit of searching I counted about six of them and I am sure there must be more. They look like minnows but since I have no minnows anywhere in my pond I guess they could be koi....I'm really hoping they are...about 1/4 inch in length and have that yellowish to brown color that I have seen in minnows...I think I'll set up a fish tank so I can take them in at the end of the season. How quick do fry grow in a month or so?? I'm going to bring them in the second week of September if they survive. Anyway...a tip of my hat to those who were excited about baby fish in the past...my neighbor, daughter and I were jumping up and down today after our discovery. Happy fishes!! Alan |
