My teeny weeny itty bitty koi that I got a year ago are ten inches long
now. Good thing I resisted temptation and got only 6 because even that
is too many for my 2000 gallon pond.

It really make my blood boil to see poor fish being cramped up like that,,,
Its not like you'd keep a puppy in a shoebox.....
and we've all heard this one befo
"but they're really small...you have no idea how big they are"...
Sure they are small..BUT THEY GROW!!!! just like we grow out of our baby
clothes and cots......

when will people learn....
grrr.....

OK Dude, you REALLY can't keep 2 koi in a 55 gallon tank,,,,,,thats too
hilarious, kind of like keeping 2 Hippos in a bathtub. Rule of thumb
for Koi
(if memory serves) is 1000 Gallons for the first koi and 100 gallons
each
for every Koi after that. You might get away with 5 goldfish in that
tank,
certainly not koi, they need clean ammonia free water, something that
your
tank will never be able to give them. Either dig yourself a pond for
them or
exchange them for something a tad more suitable to your tank size.
They will
slowly die if you leave them in current quarters!

No kidding.
It makes me nuts when I see tank packages with pictures for the 5g
tank with 3
Koi and 5 Goldfish in it.
It boggles my mind.

I've seen that too! That's when I started telling my husband (in a very loud
voice) that they get to be about 24" and it is incredibly irresponsible and
stupid to label them like that...... The walmart employee 10 feet away
didn't look very happy...

Passing through WalMart's pet dept. to get cat litter...I noticed they had
Pacu's. The sign said they only grow to 10".

You forgot to add Rec.ponds to your list of crossposts!
Go ask there for more specific answers, sounds like it could be
ammonia poisoning, you either have too high a fishload or your
filtration is not keeping up with the cycle. HTH

Okay, one of my koi's seems to be getting sick. I noticed just
today that on his belly he's got reddish/brownish lumps. Normally
it's flat white. What could this be?
TIA.

It's a 55 gallon tank with only two fish in it that has been running
for over 4 months.

There is no ammonia in my tank.
And to say that one single koi requires a minimum of 1000 gallons is
rediculous. You don't even know how big these fish are.

ah, but IF they survive, we'll know how big they'll get...............
