Thanks for the info Mark, I appreciate it.
ryan (Mark Stone) wrote in message . com... (Ryan) wrote in message . com... I've got 2 tiger oscars 9" and 8" long. I'm looking to sell them. My problem is that i have absolutly no idea what they are worth. So, any suggestions on what's a fair price? It would be greatly appreciated. ryan Hi Ryan -- I read the other responses to your post. I'd take their comments with a grain of salt. I looked around (on my usual weekly LFS tour) and discovered two shops here in El Paso that have large Oscars for sale. One had a pair, each one around seven inches, that were going for $25 each. The proprietor tells me that he sells these large specimens at a brisk pace. The other place in town is quite a legend -- it's a Jolly Jim's pet shop in a local mall (Bassett, if you happen to live in El Paso) -- This guy sells large Cichlids (mostly Oscars and a few Dempseys) for around $70 each. Yep, seventy. Each time I go in there's a different group of fish, and he tells me that they sell quite briskly! I would tell people to go getcha an Oscar at PetSmart for $4.99 and feed it for a year to get the same result, but apparently there's people willing to pay the big bucks for the instant gratification. This fellow is quite an aquarist, so I don't doubt that he makes sure that the new owner has the correct aquarium and attitude for his new pet. (You know, come to think of it, it might not be "Jolly Jim's", it might be another one of those chains -- name slips my mind right now) Experience over the last few years, however, leads me to think that around $25 to $30 is a fair price for an healthy adult Oscar. I guess it depends on your sales ability! :-) Regards, Mark Mark Stone tractorlegs at msn dot kom OSCAR Lovers! http://www.geocities.com/cichlidiot_2000/oscar.html The ".Edu" meens i are smart. |

Thanks for the tip, Paul.. We are in Australia, where they play Rugby in
Heaven, The World Cup is on at the moment, and the kiwi's had a lot of trouble with the Welsh, the other night.. I digress, Please excuse my rantings, I live in the hills, and the altitude does affect, whats left of my brain cells. Anyway,, as I was saying Large fish do command large prices,, I wandered into my local Aquarium [[ Coffs Harbour, NSW]] and there in a 6ft tank was one large, fat Oscar, around 6 or 7 inches. With that "poor me" look, Next thing someone came in complete with a Nappy bucket, handed over $150.00 aus which is about 120 us dollars and left, with a very happy look on his face.. They also have a pair [two's a pair] of orange Discus around one and 1/2 inches accross, for $85.00 each. and they won't last long 6 stripe Formosia's [I think thats right, the things with the large hump] they start at $120.00 each.. We just don't have the fish supplies here that you people in North America enjoy. You would think that with the Great Barrer Reef, our Marine Fish would be plentyfull,, But there also in very short suppy, and very expencive bassett "Mark Stone" wrote in message om... This is a tricky question. Worth is based on what someone else is
willing to pay. If your area is saturated with fish stuff than you will not get much for them, but if your area is sparse than you can make a good bit of change. Vicki Visit me on line at http://shamrock4u.250free.com |
