hydrometer dilemma

Just came back from Dallas Fort-Worth.
This PA boy couldn't handle the 98°F.
I believe that is the colder part of Texas : )

I'm reporting my experience. I prefer the Seatest to the Coralife.

Sure it is... I am also "okay" with a person not measuring *any* tank water
parameters whatsoever but at the same account being extremally concerned
with the lab-grade acuracy of measuring salinity :-)))))) You are funny! :-))

You have problems with water bubbles in a hydrometer kind
which is perfectly designed to minimize the effect of water rushing
in (by the usage of high dam and opening from the bottom)
but you do not have problem with the old style one, with the
water rushing in like crazy... Go figure!

That hydrometer design is silly. I always tell people to
turn the hydrometer upside down, insert it into the
aquarium, and then turn it up allowing the air to bubble
up. The whole idea of trying to keep from getting your
hands wet is silly.

If the air bubbles were there to stay stuck to the needle
than this method would not work anyway...
Properly seasoned needle (fully wet for couple of hours)
does not attract air bubbles.

But it works - at least in the case of Coralife "Deep Six".
Water opening is on the bottom, so you are not getting
only surface water sample, like you do with any other
kind of hydrometer (i.e. Seatest) but sample comes from
the six-inches deep water column.
As long as you collect water slowly, the way water is
sliding down the wall and not causes foaming you will
get a proper reading with no bubbles stuck to the needle.

Would it make any difference in your personal life if one
of you watches was 1/160 of second later than the other?

p.s. this is cool Microsoft Windows XP supports pc-clock
synchronization to a internet time standard right out of the box...
Now I can set all my other clocks in the house to my pc-clock.

OH yeah, it's a bit warm, and all that lovely humidity just slaps a
smile on your face.....I came here from Montana, but I guess I'm used to
it now. Or as used to it as you get anyway.

Yep, but you have to set it to your pc soon after you
synchronize it to the atomic clock, because the pc clock
loses acuracy quickly. I synchronize the pc to the atomic,
and then the watch to the pc, and then everything else to
the watch.

I like to have an accurate standard even though I use a
swing arm hydrometer for most measurments, I have an
accurate standard to back it up.
