Default "Check Engine" issue.

Okay, here's the situation:

First off, ever since I got this car two months ago, there has been
an issue with the oil lamp light which represents "Low Oil Pressure"
However, this does not turn on through short trips. Many times, it has
turned on when I am at a stop on more of the long distance trips. I
have checked the dipstick and this is how far it goes up to:

MIN | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | MAX
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer... ^ Right about here.

Just this week, the "Check Engine" light now appears, and the manual
dignifies that the emissions computer system has found something wrong
going on. Sometimes it goes off, and today was the second time it did
but I'm sure it'll reappear again.

I think this is just something minor that can be solved by an oil
change, but my dad's completely paranoid about it being more. My guess
is these two lights are related in the same issue, but it may not be
that. Car was somewhere around 89k miles when I got it and is 90.5k
now.

---------------------------------------

Just another issue that I've been ignoring because it wasn't fatal was
the washer fluid. I have the container filled and I'm sure there's no
leak. However, when I try to activate it the wipers go but there's no
fluid spraying on the windshield.

Argh! That's Google's "Preview Message" help for you. Forget the
Dipstick text... it goes about 3/4 ways from Min to Max.

Tell your father to have the oil pressure manually checked with a gauge and
if it is good to have the oil pressure sending unit replaced and the
connector needs to be cleaned out of any oil. Also have the rubber isolator
in the connector removed.
As far as the engine lite goes, it has nothing to do with the oil lite,
that's another problem.
Have someone scan the engine controller to see what fault code has been set
and let me know.

Got, er, _which_ car? Year, make, model, engine, transmission? (Disregard
Anything from Mr. Stern.) If it isn't a an Spirit or Acclaim he is lost.

The questions you asked are basic questions and could be answered regardless
of the above.

Keep in mind that if the washer fluid does not have the correct amount of
mixture it will freeze and not spray out. Do you hear the motor running on
the pump? Have you popped open the hood to make sure the hose is attached?
