2001/02/03 Caravan Heater Warning
The two heater-line pipes running from the front of the car, to the rear,
easily corrode, letting all of your engine coolant to leak out, leaving you stranded (or worse, if you don't soon turn your engine off). Look under the car, on the passenger-side, by the front door; there are 4 pipes there (two going back, two going front), two for the rear A/C, two for the rear heat: the two farthest from the side of the car (ie. closer to the middle) are the heater pipes. On 2001's these are 2 continuous steel tubes; mine were totally corroded, from front to back, and leaking. The parts cost a couple of hundred, plus installation, plus tow, so if you look now you might be able to save yourself the two. Alternatively, see if you can delay replacement, by cleaning-up the rust, and finding some way to protect them - ask around. The origional steel tubes were replaced with an aluminum-tube and rubber-pipe assembly on 2002 models, but the front pipe is still steel - try to preserve those steel parts, now, which were starting to go on a friends 2002. My new part assembly is all aluminum and rubber, and will last the next owner well, in two months from now, when the car comes off lease. |
