Default intermittent start

posted this on another honda ng-wasn't sure which was best.

My 99 Accord would not start yesterday. Turned over just fine, just
wouldn't start. Usually a very reliable car.

Had it towed to dealer and now it starts just fine. Dealer still has car.

What would cause intermittent start problem?

99 Accord 4 cyl EX
72000 miles

Usually, such an intermittent problem, is because of faulty electric
stuff under the hood. You need to change some or all of these:

Spark Plug Wires, Coil Wire, Distributor Cap, Rotor, Spark Plugs.

First, look at when was the last time, any of these were changed. If
you have changed all of these recently, except the spark plug wires,
then just replace spark plug wires. If you don't have a maintenance
record, check with the dealer, who keeps your record on his computer.

This is my gut feeling, let's see what the experts have to say.

I had the same problem last year on my 90 Prelude. I replaced the main
relay first, but the problem continued. I then replaced the distributor
cap and rotor (the cap was full of white dust, it's in Tegger's faq)
and have not had a problem since. So if you want to do it the just make
a wild guess and replace a part way, I'd replace the cap and rotor
first before the relay, just because they're cheaper.

However, your results may vary from mine.

Cheers,
Mike Davis
