Default 99 F150 V8 Check Engine Light

I drove through some standing water and the engine started missing and
the check engine light came on. After a day, the electrical system
must've dried out because it's running smooth, but the light has to be
reset. The Ford garage wants $82 just to reset the light. At that
price, it's not going to happen. Any alternatives?

AutoZone read mine and reset it for me for free. Some of the other parts
places that have loaner tools may loan out code readers. Or, lots of the
cheap ($50) code readers will reset it. Or, you could remove the bulb (but
they check for that in the emissions test here in Arizona).

I have a 1995, F-250, with the V8-351 engine. The engine check light comes
on almost every time it rains. The light goes out when it quits raining. I
took it to the Ford dealer twice and they said the trouble codes are clear
and they can find nothing else wrong. They said they would need the truck
while the light was on to figure it out. I am not going to leave it with
them till it rains. As long as the light goes back out I have decided not
to worry about it. I know my problem is not much help to you but if your
truck is running ok, give it a few days. The light may go out on it's own
like mine does.

Oh buy the way, Ford did charge me every time they checked it even though
they didn't fix the problem.

I just paid 85 bucks to have a key made at a dealer for my Sporttrak.
I feed the machine when I have to, but thank goodness its not that
often. Mechanics have to make money, but I think dealers are a rip.
