Default GTV Tapits Help Needed

Im hoping you can help, I own a Alfa GTV which has been causing me
some problems just of late. There is a ticking noise coming from the
engine, I have taken it to a garge in Nuneaton who told me it must
need a new cam-belt and tentioner which i had fixed. But after £400 it
still makes the same noise. Can anyone recommend a good machanic in
the Nuneaton/Coventry area. I have been told it needs new tapits, im
not sure how expensive this job is but could do with you help finding
someone to do it.

Many Thanks

Dave Oliver

As you are talking of "cambelts" I'm assuming you have a modern GTV.
These have hydraulic tappets.
These generally do not fail.
(replacement would mean camshafts out and new belts again)
Use of poor quality oil (or not changing or running low) will cause camshaft
lobe wear which may be the sound you can hear.
You may also be able to hear the injectors, which may be the sound you can
hear but is not a problem.
If you have a 2.0 16V, when they replaced the cambelt, did they also replace
the balance shaft belt & tensioner?

As for somewhere to take it, W.A.D. in Wolverhampton would be the best place
in your area.
