Ummm... what? I've only used one english patch so far, and it has
worked with all GTR pathces, including the latest (1.2.3.0).

BTW, I ordered my copy from amazon.de in November... didn't want to
wait for the 1Q/2005 release. The local publisher/distributor
(PanVision) said something about late February...

Only the basic game.dic would possibly be capable of working with all
versions (I strongly doubt it) and even it has been updated by some people
to work with the 1.1 and then again for the 1.2 patch. An updated game.dic
only makes the game about 70% english. All of the loading/menu screens are
packed into files which have changed quite considerably with each patch and
there's no possible way that they could work unless you extracted them and
injected them manually into the new files.

Yes, you're right, with the new GTR patched I indeed have one "Rück"
button instead of a "Back/Return" button. And some track loading
screens say "Lade" and "Rennen" instead of "Loading" and "Race".

I don't know how I've managed to play the "german" GTR without waiting
two weeks for a updated translation after each patch...

Probably not a big deal for people in non-english speaking countries as I'm
sure they're used to having a mish-mash of languages on TV, games etc. I'd
prefer to own a 100% english version but maybe I'm weird.

Sure - lets face it, we're volunteer beta testers. I have my doubts it
will be quite were I'd like it to be in a month but 1.23 has certainly made
it useable at least. It's easy to have been spoilt by all the Papy polish
over the years.

So it's a matter of a personal preference. When you said that you have
to wait for a new language patch after each GTR patch, it sounded like
it's impossible for you to play the german version in the meanwhile...

Well, I wouldn't exactly call language a 'personal preference' Maybe it is
for some multilingual people...

I wouldn't exactly call patched GTR a german game if it has one button
with an arrow labeled "rück" instead of "back", and everything else in
english. If this prohibits you from playing the game until you get
that updated english patch with the "back" button, then yes, I call it
a personal preference.

Anyway, I don't think this language issue is big enough to postpone
ordering GTR until english version is released. GTR is just that good
