Default diesel gearing torque curve

I am sure this has been explained before but I would appreciate it if
someone could advise me of the best rpm range for a diesel 4 x 4. Its
a new engine and gearbox and I have the chance to adjust the gearing.
I have torque/hp curves for the engine and hp curves for the vehicle.
So at say 65mph should the engine rpm be close to its max torque or
say half way along if you see what I mean.

Thanks

Smokeyone
