loping idle
Not sure what else to call this. My girlfriend bought a 1992 Ford Ranger
with about 150,000 kms on it. It has the 3.0l engine and manual transmission. We did a body job on it in the fall after she bought it and its run good all winter. In the last couple weeks its started idling very strange. The idle starts normal then drops until it almost stalls then comes back to normal and just continues this cycle untill it warms up. We've been doing some routine maintenance like oil changes, I've replaced the serpentine belt, air filter looks new. I also changes the trans fluid. Nest on the list is PVC valve and spark plugs. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this idle problem? Doug Arthurs Kent Bridge, Ontario -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

I drove a ranger a couple of years ago that did the same thing. In my
case, a vacuum line had come undone. It snapped right back together once you found it, and it would come undone again a few months later. I don't have a long-term fix. In the engine compartment, look in the area right in front of the driver's seat. You'll hear a sucking noise, which is the open vacuum line. Just snap it back together.
