Hard Startin' Rabbit
Hello all,
I have a '79 Rabbit that has trouble starting. I was told a while back by the local battery dealer that my alternator was not putting out enough juice. I've still managed to get it to start easily by charging it regularly. But in the last two days, it struggles when I turn the key. It *sounds* like a dying battery, but when I try to jump it off of a good battery, I get the same thing -- a slow "rurr-rurr-rurr-rurr". For what it's worth, the battery charger shows full charge as well. I recently did a radiator flush and probably got a number of electrical components wet. So, perhaps that's a contributing factor, but I think this started just prior to the flush. Of course, I suppose it's possible that my jump start experiment is not conclusive either. Any ideas? Thanks, Fred |

Could be that the electrical contacts between battery and starter motor are
corroded/bad. Try cleaning the contacts of the battery and starter motor solenoid. Also check all ground wires.
