1987 Landcruiser FJ60 2F head removal
I am removing the head on my 87 FJ60 Landcruiser with 2F engine. I have a
few questions: 1. There was a bracket with a hook on it attached to the head through the back left two head bolts. It made it difficult to get those head bolts out, I had to use a swivel. I am assuming this is for pulling the engine? I saw a pic of a 3F engine and that bracket appeared to be on the front right side of the head. Is the rear left corner the correct position for it on a 2F? 2. Will using a swivel socket cause the torque measurements to be off when I reassemble the head and torque the two back left bolts? 3. I removed 6 bolts and 2 nuts from the manifolds. Two were only holding the exhaust manifold on the ends of it. Two were holding the exhaust and intake manifolds split on top and two on the bottom near the ends that I couldn't see. The two nuts were blind and they were on either sides of the carb on the top of the intake manifold. The exhaust manifold is loose but the intake still seems to be attached. Are there other bolts or nuts that I can't see that need to be removed? I can lift the head up a bit but I assume I have to lift it completely off of the block and then slide it to towards the passenger side to get the studs to clear the intake manifold. The intake manifold won't budge. Here is a picture that I got from all data which shows the manifold bolts. Is it accurate? http://www.furriestdog.com/landcruis...ld_install.jpg Thanks, Jabran |

1) I assume the manufacture knew what they were doing when installing
the engine. The 3F and 2F are two different engines, leaving the bracket off won't hurt the engine at all... just make sure the bolts aren't too long when reassembling. 2) YES! Swivel-socket, extensions will VERY much affect the torque! 3) Can you pull the head by disconnecting the exhaust at the manifold... and pull-off the head with the intake and exhaust still attached? Best wishes, Dave |
