Default "Lean Burn" OBD code on '98 F-150

I just purchased (at auction) a '98 F-150 Super Cab w/5.4L, 4wd and
automatic. 132K miles. Runs great and in excellent condition (aside from the
"smoker" previous owner).

Within a few miles I got a "Check Engine" light. Owners manual says to check
OBD codes as soon as as possible. (still ok to drive)

I had the local Auto Parts store read the codes and they gave two items.
"Bank One Lean Burn" and "Bank Two Lean Burn". I suspected that it had
recently been run out of gas since the fuel level was very low, until I made
it to a gas station.

I had the tech. clear the codes but the Check Engine light came back on
within 50 miles.

My next thought would be to check the fuel filter. I have no manuals yet and
don't know where this filter would be located.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Steve

If it did not shut down then that does not pertain.

Probably not unless it shuts down or bucks when giving it full
throttle at highway speed.

Vaccum leak or dirty mass air flow sensor.
