Dunno about the engine, but that's gotta be one NASTY mutha to deal with
when you decide to re-arrange the furniture...

The only aluminum V-8's this small I know of were the Buick & Olds 215C.I. motors
and the Daimler V-8 .The Daimler however was a Hemi and these pistons are not out
of a hemi.

Well, it's obviously a pushrod V8. Which would probably make it
something of U.S. origin. Others have observed that it looks to be an
aluminum block, which would narrow things further: Buick made a 3.5L
V8 in the early '60s, but sold the tooling and design to Rover, who
used it in the Range Rover and SD1 sedan, among other models. GM has
made aluminum small-block Chevy V8s, for racing in the '60s and more
recently for Corvettes and the like. They also did a big-block (>=7
liters) for racing, but which was available in a special Corvette. I
don't think Mercedes has ever done a pushrod aluminum V8; even the old
cast-iron 6.3-liter from the 600 had overhead cams. Likewise Lexus and
Infiniti V8's.
