Default Auto Leasing or Rental?

There is probably a fine line between auto leasing and rental.

There must be a company in the business that fills this need.

I have a used car I bought a year ago that did not hold up to the time I
needed.

I probably have about 6-8 months to remain in the United States before I am
an ex-pat again. I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to sell
the limping vehicle I have now and buying another one for a half year, for
which I will pay hefty sales tax on again!

Is it possible for me to lease (rent?) a commute (40 miles one-way, 5-6
days a week) car for only 6-8 months. It doesn't even have to be a new
car. Only a reliable one.

Are people in business for this type of customer?

You could look for a lease that someone else has and is trying to get out
of with 6 - 8 months left. LeaseTrader.com has listings but I think
there's a small fee if you contact someone after searching their lists, or
you can hit your local papers' classified. Also, you could call your local
rental companies and ask if they have something for folks like you -
it might be through some plan they have for corporations who send
employees to places for half a year or whatever. I've had good experience
with Enterprise rental cars although I've never been in your particular
position.
