Default Sloth at grocery stores

Read the whole thread. A lot of stuff from driving translates into real
life.

Not sure where you are, but I do _not_ observe this behavior in Virginia.
People here are polite to a fault. You can't go anywhere and do anything
without someone saying "excuse me". Its almost the way to start and end
sentences. The biggest transgression I notice in supermarkets is some people
having more than 12 items in the express lane. But direct confrontation?
Nope.

I say they are polite "to a fault" because, as likely as not, they will not be
taking their legal right-of-way. Parking lots are an especially good place to
notice this. Someone _should_ be proceeding, I _should_ be waiting, but
they'll stop and let me go anyway. Now, that takes _more_ time than if they'd
just do what I expect them to, but you have to say that they are nevertheless
polite.

There are 142 articles at this point, and looking at the first one, it
apparently started out as a different thread.

I only read a couple posts, but I don't see much rudeness at the grocery
store.

I do see sloth, especially in the self-checkout lines.

But most people are just naturally slow. I quickly learned to take note
of the produce codes when I put them in my cart. Fortunately, I have
good short-term memory for numbers.

Shortly after they were introduced, the attendant there (not really a
cashier anymore) asked me if I used to work there because I managed to
scan, key and bag everything half-way efficiently.

Yeah, I obviously touched a nerve with a couple of people, complaining
about their sloth behavoir in the grocery store... I quickly equated
it with driving.
