Default Is it legal to add a display at the back windshield?

In the USA, is it legal to add a text display sign in the back window so I
can display texts like "thanks", "sorry", etc.

I can only make an educated guess but I'm pretty sure it's legal to do
so. Many buses have electronic display signs on both the front and
back.
