LASER + PHOTO RADAR License plate cover

Can someone tell me if there is anything that defeats the red light
cameras or speed cameras. I am getting fed up with these stupid camera
tickets that are absolutely unfair. I got one the other day for
driving 4mph above the speed limit. What do they call this safety or
ripping off? I need help.

Ripping off. Cover your plates with something that will screw it up.

there are various license plate covers that purport to work, but they are
probably illegal.

i know that there's a company that sells a clear spray which can be used
along with their clear cover for plates... but i'm not sure if you can be
nabbed for having the clear cover on.

with the spray a cop can't tell..

That's a nice theory and all, but the fact is that most
red light cameras are installed under contract with the
company that makes them, they get a cut in return for
subsidizing the installation. One of the primary contract
requirements is typically turning the yellow light time
down to the absolute legal minimum, even if a traffic study
of the intersection indicates a longer time is appropriate.
Undertimed lights mean that many drivers have to be ready
to slam the brake pedal into the floor at the first hint
of yellow in order to avoid getting tagged by the camera,
and that's while driving at the legal speed limit for the
intersection in question. The only solution is to drive
perhaps 10-15 MPH slower through the intersection even on
green just to avoid the risk of causing an accident from a
panic stop due to undertimed yellows. Of course, this creates
its own set of problems with safety and congestion.

Several major and reputable news organizations have done
stories on this, and the response from both the cities and
the manufacturer has been a resounding "so what".

Illegal in some states, including California. Basically nothing is
allowed to cover the number itself while in operation. There are
warning labels on all brackets/covers saying that they may not be
legal in some jurisdictions depending on what gets covered up. The
clear covers often recommend that they're for show car use only and
may be illegal on a street vehicle.

California Vehicle Code 5201.f

(f) No covering may be used on license plates except as follows:
(1) The installation of a cover over a lawfully parked vehicle to
protect it from the weather and the elements does not constitute a
violation of this subdivision. Any peace officer or other regularly
salaried employee of a public agency designated to enforce laws,
including local ordinances, relating to the parking of vehicles may
temporarily remove so much of the cover as is necessary to inspect
any license plate, tab, or indicia of registration on a vehicle.
(2) The installation of a license plate security cover is not a
violation of this subdivision if the device does not obstruct or
impair the recognition of the license plate information, including,
but not limited to, the issuing state, license plate number, and
registration tabs, and the cover is limited to the area directly over
the top of the registration tabs. No portion of a license plate
security cover shall rest over the license plate number.
(g) No casing, shield, frame, border, or other device that
obstructs or impairs the reading or recognition of a license plate by
a remote emission sensing device, as specified in Sections 44081 and
44081.6 of the Health and Safety Code, shall be installed on, or
affixed to, a vehicle.

That's right Jazz Man, it's a Revenue Generator so that the City uses
to pay its salaried employees. Has nothing to do with "Traffic
Safety" at all.
