GTR 2002 Tracks?
Does anybody have a link for any of the tracks that work with GTR 2002, the
mod SimBin made for F1C before they decided to release the standalone (GTR) product? Other than the recently released Nordschleife, that is. I'm working on a story about race-sim mods for a car magazine and need some examples. Thanks. --Steve Smith |

I'll let you know (or you can email me).
Thanks for the links. Most of them are down ATM. The ones linked to RSC, I suppose. The problem with 2k2 tracks is that everyone who was working with them, moved on to F1c and the tracks either got updated to C status or ignored. So finding working sites will be tough. I have some saved files..if you need any paticular track, gimmie a shout, maybe I saved it. dave henrie ps.. just yesterday I saw a racing game story in some Car mag and was disappointed your name wasn't attached. Do drop us a line when it's done. |

Dave,
You must be right - GTR 2002 musta been for F1 2002, not F1C. No, I don't have any particular tracks in mind. I just noted the difference in quality between the tracks in GTR (the commercial release, not GTR 2002) and the valiant attempt at the Nordschleife, which winds up looking pretty amateurish. I thought I remembered the earlier F1x tracks as more polished, and since the N'schleife worked--after a fashion--w. GTR, I reckoned some of the earlier tracks would be a more interesting drive than some of the technically competent but emotionally vapid newer tracks (which epitomize Ron Dennis' observation that the epicenter of modern F1 design is 80 mph in 2nd gear). --Steve "Dave Henrie" > wrote in message . 97.136... > > >> > > > > > Gawd...my mind is going to mush...I thought GTR 2k2 was for F1 2002 not > F1c. I didn't play many 3rd party tracks for GTR 2002 but I remember a version of
Laguna Seca that was released being much better than the original tracks in terms of quality. |

Hopefully, when GTR gains worldwide distribution in February, there will be
a spate of (new) or upgraded tracks for this fabulous sim. "Damien Smith" > wrote in message ... > I didn't play many 3rd party tracks for GTR 2002 but I remember a version of > Laguna Seca that was released being much better than the original tracks in > terms of quality. > > |

It was supposed to be harder to convert, but as we have seen, guys have been able to bring in f1c tracks. However, the features within the GTR tracks probably will be tough to implement. i.e. dynamic lighting, and the track marbles. So getting a track into GTR will be possible. But having them look as good or work as well will be a challenge. And since the problems seem to be with the surroundings of the track, it will take longer, at least at first. |

But it can be done. Other than the rather unprofessional-looking
Nordschleife, the only GTR-specific track I've seen is Chatham, a well-made sort-of infield-type track (like Phoenix) that I seem to remember from SCGT years ago.... Don't know if it has dynamic marbles, thunderhead build-up or the other newfangled fx, but so far it's a pretty cool test track.
