Default Is the D4 light on a 1998 Honda Civic supposed to be illuminated while driving?

I have a 1998 Honda Civic. The D4 light is illuminated while driving.
It is not blinking but just a steady light. Can anyone tell me if it's
supposed to be illuminated?

Thanks...John

Extremely likely, you mean the stack of ovals in the dash cluster right?
With your foot on the brake, move your auto stick thorugh the gears and
watch the lights change as you do it, even R. Cool, huh?!

There's a cool diagnostic in your Owner's Manual called the 'lamp
check'. It's in the pages describing the dash guages / lamps. It's a
good idea to do it every now and then to be sure all your warning lamps
are working.

Could be the bulb. Could also be the switch at the base of the shift lever.
Could also be an open wire somewhere in between. I'd say call it good!
