Default Permatex gasket maker

Can this product be used in place of a gasket for valve covers?

What Permatex product are you considering, and what engine is this?

Personally, if available, I would just get a neoprene gasket and glue it
to the valve cover. Will be the last gasket you buy, even on a
solid-lifter engine.

1993 Nissan Altima. Permatex recommends 'The Right Stuff' (fast setting) or
Ultra Grey

The gasket is a ridiculos $35, a tube of gasket maker $5.

Use "the right stuff" but let it set up a little before installing the
valve cover.

Is the stock gasket cork or neoprene? If the latter you can probably
safely reuse it with no ill effects.

I regularly use Permatex "The Right Stuff" brand gasket maker in place
of valve cover, timing cover, and oil pan gaskets, and been very happy.
I do NOT like using their plain black, red, or blue RTV in place of
gaskets though. It doesn't hold up as long as "The Right Stuff."
