Default Freon in a Civic

My wife's 3 year old Civic needed freon a few weeks ago and the dealer
said that's because leakage is normal. My 6 year old Accord never
needed freon. Asked an expert in commercial A/C and he was surprised
the dealer said that.

What gives?
