Default o no, black smoke?

I have a 94 shevy cav z24 with 136000 miles. their is black smoke spitting
out of the tail pipe and leaving black specks on the back bumper could this
be some sort of exuast issue, like a resinator or cat converter issue or is
it what i think rings?

Black smoke usually gets read as "godawful rich". Look to your injectors
first, I would think. Oil burning (like you'd get with rings) is usually
blue. I can't think of anything in the exhaust system that could cause
black smoke.

Default if injectors is that costly?

would a diagnostic test know what is wrong if there is no service light on
saying that something is wrong? I am trying to figure out if this car is
going to be going to heaven or not!

Maybe. Maybe not.
You could have a real time scan done with enging running.
That is assuming you do not have obd 1 1/2.
Pull the vac hose off of the pressure regulator and see if there
is gas. More than likely the cat has already melted down.
I don't think your car is going to heaven - probably the other place instead.

If it is truly BLACK smoke, not blue, this is a very rich mixture.
Indicative of stuck choke on carbureted cars, leaky injector or other
injector problems on FI car.
