My Father's Dream

In high school, my father had a red, two-door '57 Chevy. It was his baby.
He loved that car. He loved it so much in fact, that after it didn't run
anymore, he parked it in his front yard to await the fix-up it deserved.
Well, he married at 18, had a couple of kids, and worked hard to give his
family what he could. You can guess where the '57 Chevy remained. That’s
right, in the front yard. I grew up playing on those endless summer days
near the car, and building my snowmen around it year after year after
year. To me, then, it was just a car. But to my dad, it was a dream just
waiting to come true. But he would never put anything before his family.
He was busy making ends meet and doing all he could to help his parents on
their farm. Time was just going to fast.
About 3 months after his 18th wedding anniversary, his wife left. She took
one of his daughters with her, and left him one. It was a hard time, not
only in mind and spirit, but the debt that comes with a divorce took its
toll, too. The dream waiting in the yard came to an end. It was the only
thing worth selling that he had. It was loose this, or loose it all. I was
13 or so the day I came home and saw that it was gone. (I was the daughter
he had custody of). Nothing seemed right after there was no '57 Chevy to
see out the front room window. There was more than a car missing. It was
part of my dad.
Now I am 25 and I hear dad mention it every now and then. He turns 50 on
January 13, 2006. I would like to present him with his dream. I know it
would mean more than words can say to him. I have one year and two months
to plan it, budget it, and get it all done. I know I am in way over my
head here, but he is so worth it.
If anyone knows anyone who could help in any way, shape or form, from
advice to hands-on, please let me know. You would be helping to fulfill my
father's dream.
