Elantra fuel consumption
Hi!
I recently bought a hyundai elantra 2000 car, 80 000 km. I use it on the highway and the fuel consumption is very low, 30 miles/g. The normal consumption for this car should be around 40 miles/g. The maintenance is well done, and the motor looks to be fine. I don't understand such a difference. What could be the problem? |

Who says "the normal consumption for this car should be around 40 miles/gallon"? WHO says that. The _fact_ is, it is NOT 40 mpg, but your measured 30 mpg. If you are looking at EPA window stickers, I suggest you take up a different hobby. They are wildly optimistic in their ratings. Notoriously so. Lg |

The value of 40 mpg is taken from a canadian governement web site that gives
the fuel consumption for different models and different years. Note that value is for the canadian gallon and not the american one. In fact the consumption is as follow in internationnal values, 9.43 L / 100 km, and the rating is at 6.5 L / 100 Km. I also have a mazda protege 2002 and the evaluated fuel consumption for this car is realistic, 39 mpg. Thanks. If you are really supposed to get 39 mpg, the car must have the mass of a motorcycle. Seriously, I don't know of a car that can do that, that I couldn't tip over with one arm. Lg |

I have a similar car, Hyundai Elantra, and the best that I ever got was
about 38 mpg on a steady highway trip at moderate speeds, lightly loaded, with a tailwind CDN gallons.
