What will happen is that you will adjust your speed to the conditions,
but the idiots who think the number posted on the sign is appropriate for
all condition will plow on at unappropriate speeds. These are the folks
who cause the giant pileups you see on the local news. This is especially
evident during heavy fog.

I wish everyone would figure this out. It is so obvious, but missed by
so many.

I think you mean two lane.

In road terminology, a two lane road is one where there is one lane in
each direction, while a one lane road has just the single lane for both
directions.

You're right that people shouldn't be doing 55 on one lane roads. Much
too great a risk of a severe head-on collision.
