I just got a Sun Supply Maristar fixture and installed it over my 120g reef
tank. This fixture has 2X250w MH and 2X45w PC. How high should it be above
my tank? I started at about 15" but have raised it to almost 2' above the
water surface at this time. I did this mostly to control the heat issues it
created being lower. I have since ordered a chiller so this wont be as much
of an issue soon but I wondered what the best height to shoot for was?
TIA
G.

They say anywhere from 4-10". I would go for around 10" to keep some room
for air flow under the lights.

And adjust the height for proper coverage across the bottom of the tank..
High up more spread, but loss of intensity.
Go to a few websites with reefer's tank pics and get a general idea what
others are using.
Don't go to extremes either way... I ran mine about 10 in above the
water level. But the canopy
determined that.
