Sorry for the late reply on this one, I've been away and hence
offline.

I added a small amount of baking soda to my water when changing it,
and added the fresh water slowly over a few hours. It's a 15g tank
and I had a 1/2 teaspoon measure which wasn't quite full.

From pH of less than 6 and KH of nil, I now have pH 6.4 and KH 2
which is ideal now - and my fish are carrying on oblivious :)
