Default pH up instructions - what should it read?

I suspect that your KH reads about 1 dH? You shoud try for a reading of
aroung 3 to 4 degrees. Regular baking soda will do the trick. Add 1/3 tsp
per nine gallons of aquarium water to raise your KH by around 2 degrees.
AS AN EXAMPLE... if you want to raise a 50 gal tank by 2 degrees you'd add
roughly 2 tsp of baking soda. Do it s*l*o*w*l*y to avoid stressing out your
fish. Mix it up in a glass and add a 1/3 of the solution every couple of
hours or so.

Sorry for the late reply on this one, I've been away and hence
offline.

I added a small amount of baking soda to my water when changing it,
and added the fresh water slowly over a few hours. It's a 15g tank
and I had a 1/2 teaspoon measure which wasn't quite full.

From pH of less than 6 and KH of nil, I now have pH 6.4 and KH 2
which is ideal now - and my fish are carrying on oblivious

Thanks again,

Much cheaper than the chemicals the LFS wants to sell you too!
