HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I have a 55 gallon tank with about 15 fish in it I have the penguin 330
and a magnum 350 filter will lots of airation just over the last few days i
have noticed a strong sulfer smell so i did a partial water change and its
not as bad now but it is still there....what causes this and how do I fix
this??/ Any advice would be appreciated....thanks Star

There must be an anerobic spot in your gravel or sand ,give it a thorough
vacuming or raking and you will see a load of gas bubbles escaping the
substrate then do a large water change to remove any hydrogen sulphide build
up in the water.

ok a question
we have the penguin 330 bio wheel and a magnum 350 filter and we also have
bubble airators in the back of the aquarium running all along the back isnt
that enough airation? Or what else do I need to do??? thanks for all your
help....Star

Just my tuppence worth, but I wouldn't rake it. I would use the vacuum tube,
driving it deep into the gravel systematically and jiggle, this will ensure
the H2S is taken away by the vacuum and not allowed to dissolve into the
tank where with only a few ppm it will kill fish. As someone else said this
is not a long term solution though.

Thank you all so much for your info most of what was said is very helpful
some I wasnt sure what you were talking about but we took out all the stuff
from the bottom underneath the rock and today the Ph is 6.8 its gettung
better but I dont know if its temporary or if we got out all the peat or
what ever it was,,,,it was like a sandy reddish brown stuff that went under
the rock and no we dont have an under gravel filter I guess time will tell
but I wanted to thank you all so much for all the info you are all truly
blessed to be so nice enough to help people...Star
