Hi there.

Both my 300l tanks has got both. I've got Fluval 304s outside and a
smaller power filter inside. The inside filter gets cleaned with every
water change, and the Fluval once/2 months.

Been running for 3 years like that. One Fluval pump did pack up, but I
modified it with a 1000l/h pond pump, and it works better than it used
to.
