Amazing - Angel Fry

7days ago the Angels laid eggs on the internal filter casing but ate
them within days.

Surprisingly they laid another batch this week.
I have today removed the Java fern leaves including young fry and
placed all intact in a dedicated tank.

The amazing thing is that a few fry were left attached to part of the
Java fern leaf in the community tank, the Female is taking care of
them. I know other cichlids take the fry in their mouths but I did not
realise that the female Angel takes the odd fry in her mouth and then
spits it back onto the leaf.

Many cichlids, probably one of the most advanced groups of fish, often mouth
the eggs to destroy infertile eggs, then mouth the fry to give them a
'cleaning'. Sort of a demonstration that fish may have been aware of the
problems of fungus and bacteria before mankind figured it out.
A totally normal approach for a cichlid.
