View Full Version : Goldfish going blind.

Recently I thought my Demekin was suffering from flipover. I'd just
finished a salt water treatment for a winter Ich outbreak. During that
time I'd cleared everything out of the tank and hadn't been feeding peas
so I wasn't too suprised by it.

However since feeding peas and seeing them pass through normally and
treating the water with Epsom Salts and not seeing a mega-poop I figured
something else was wrong.

It appears that a growth like a layer of skin has grown across one eye,
over the last couple of days I've seen the last two millimetres in the
centre of the eye be covered over. The grouth is noticable on the eye
when she swims. What I though was flipover is actually her resting with
this eye down. Her sense of up\down seems to have been affected.

There's a slight blackening of several scales but nothing like I've seen
with ammonia burn on fish. At first I'd figured it was just part of the
the whole false blackmoor to demekin change.

Water and everything is fine. I'm doing frequent water changes, have
flushed out the filter and have added some Tea Tree oil in case it's a
bacterial problem. She appears to be eating normally, fins aren't limp
or clenched, but is perhaps a little lazier than normal.

Anyone seen this in a fish before?

I've seen contact areas from surface exposure and bottom exposure develop
infection sites. It's not out of the question that parasites are at those
contact areas too.

The slime coat is fine. As I said I'd just finished a salt treatment as
per koivet.com for Ich.

The eye definately appears to have some form of tumour that grew across it.

She doesn't appear to be in any form of distress. They only problem is
that when resting she does so with the affected eye down, ie the good eye
towards the light. When the light's not on and the major source of light
is through a glass door she orientates at an angle facing this with her
good eye.

Yeah. It definately appear to grow across the eye like a skin. It might
be a thickening of the slime coat in that area, due to it being irritated
by the sand. I was feeding her surimi yesterday and she swam around
properly for ages. Later on she went back to being on her side. Perhaps
one swim bladder has finally gone.

There is only one bladder. I think she is ill. If she's rolling to one side and
bottom sitting, she's ill. I've seen fish takes months to crap out from
internal problems. Their insides turn to mush. I would feed her some antibiotic
food. It wil also fix the eye.
