5gal Hex-bio wheel-Betta & Cat or 2 small fish & Cat? by
ko57
Hello,
I've been reading through some of the postings at this group and at
afew aquarium sites and just joined, any advice even though my new tank
is small would be appreciated. Perhaps later on I'll get a larger
tank...
After having had an aquarium many years ago when we were kids, I bought
a...

Albino Cory Eggs by
jb60083
I have a pair of albino corys that just started to lay eggs. I have
read about how to raise the fry, but none of my eggs have ever hatched.
I have done a variety of things to help them along, such as putting the
eggs in a small plastic breeding area inside the tank, and arranging
the air bubbles...

Just my 2 cents of observations and notes.... by
Daniel Morrow
I got my potable water hoses (100 feet divided by 2 = 2 50 foot hoses) which
are high quality and now I feel comfortable filling my tanks back up to top
them off - no more eyeballing the previous hose which was vinyl (I love
vinyl but it just wasn't heavy duty enough) and worrying about a rupture....

Help! Hydra! by
Elaine T
I've never had trouble with hydra before. So where do they first crop
up? In my 2.5g shrimp tank, with a female holding eggs! *mutter* They
must have come in on some plants I grabbed from outside.
I'd prefer not to move the shrimp. They're red cherry shrimp and very
sensitive to changes in...

Fancy Vac. by
spiral_72
I've tried several variations of the manual vac & pump/filter in an
interest to clean my tank a little more thorough. The best
configuration (so far) uses a whole house 30 micron filter insert
fitted to the input of a return pump in a 10gal plastic tote. The idea
was to vacuum into the tote and...

Decapsulating Brine Shrimp eggs by
Tynk
I don't know if the original person still needs this or not, but it's
good info for anyone with baby fish to know. By removing the outer
shell of shrimp eggs, you can feed it directly to fry without having to
hatch it! That's the cool part...especially when you find yourself with
fry or the fly,...

Removing Chloramine by
Al Haunts
For water changes, I let the tap water stand for about a week before
using it. I prefer to avoid chemical de-chlorinating agents if
possible.
I'm sure this gives chlorine plenty of time to dissipate, but what
about chloramine??
Regards, Al.

Strange question I am sure, I know that some pets get upset when the
owner goes away for a while, or drops them off at the vets, do fish get
mad?

Cycling a 29g tank by
Rodney M
I haven't had an aquarium since I was a kid but for the past 6 months
I have been reading the newsgroups and various books on tropical fish
and got the itch to get a tank going again. There was a 29 gallon
tank with stand at the LFS by my house that I really liked. My wife
surprised me on our 2...

I did it! Finally replaced all gravel in my 125 g tank by
fish lover
Thanks guys for the great advise. I did it in three days using the 2"
tube with my 40% water change. Hope everything is going to be OK. So
far the discus look happy. I know I may have cloudy water for few
days. I will watch the ammo level. The PH level dropped from 7.7 to
7.45, which is kind of bit...

Silly Rasboras! by
Liz McGuire
So, every now and then I need to top off the water in my tank (which
has rasboras, neons and otos). As it's just a 10g, I do this with a
cup. And my silly little rasboras love being where the water is
poured in! As I don't want to "hit" them with the water, I have to
pour a little bit slowly on...

What is the best way to remove/replace gravel? by
fish lover
After so many trys, I finally took NetMax's advise and tested my
gravel with PH down. Sure enough, some of them had reactions to it. I
guess that's why I could not bring down my PH level no matter what I
do. Thanks Max
Anyway, I'm thinking of remove all the gravel in the tank and
replacing it with...

red_foreman
Hey all, it's been a while. Lots going on, school, work, life, etc...
Recently moved, and had a very fun (sarcastic) time moving the tanks of
fish and geckos, and now the turtle... but that's another board
altogether...
Wish I could write more, but haven't the time...

Eheim filter media options? by
Bill Stock
I just got an Eheim 2026 for the plant tank to replace the AquaClear 500. I
want to use a spray bar and run a UV filter.
I've always kept a bag of Aragonite in the AC500 to keep my KH/PH stable as
I inject CO2 based on the PH. But I'm wondering about the best place to add
it to the Eheim. I guess...
