Decomposing leaves by
ScrubsFan
Is it a good or bad idea to let leaves that fall into my pond decompose?
It's a pre-fab pond that holds about 80 gallons (if I remember
correctly) and is 24-30" deep.
If it is a good idea, is there some general rule of thumb as to how deep
to let the layer at the bottom of the pond get before...

legal issues and frogs by
kathy
Some time back I remember we had a discussion about frogs and frog song
and neighbors and legal issues
Some neighbors really hate it when frogs and toads show
up at our ponds and start their singing and courting.
Someone said that we, as pondowners, can not be held
liable for the noise that...

Will I regret an uphill drain pipe? by
Chris
I'm about to start excavating a pond 4' deep with a 55 gal drum filter
(drums 3' high; jj's design). One nagging doubt I have is about the
pipe from the bottom drain to the filter. It'll have to run uphill at
least 1.5' in order to enter the filter. Seems to me that with enough
flow I shouldn't...

Welded pond liner? by
GaryCampbell
Hi folks,
I am planning to build a circular pond and was wondering if anyone can
comment on preformed 'welded' butyl liner? A few companies say they can
do this and it sounds like it might be what I'm looking for. The
dimensions of the pond are radius 1500mm, depth 600 with a 200mm deep
shelf. One...

Green Guk by
News
Does anyone know of any magical ingredient that will get rid of the green
pond guk ? Or at least something to slow it down. Our pond is about 12ft. by
17ft. and 1.5 to 2 ft. deep with quite a few water lily's.
Also, should goldfish be fed or just left on their own ?

Miniature Cattails dilema by
~Roy~
I don't know what it is but I have never been able to get them to grow
or last.
I have experimented with them planted at various depths from 0" to 2"
or more, in a half barrel and also in a large pot in a natural pond
where everything else flourishes. I have planted them in the pond
without a pot...

My daughter cleaned the pond with dishwashing soap by
mark Bannister
She thought she was doing a good thing, and fortunately there are no
fish yet. The pond was supposed to be up and running last year, but I
just now got the tile finished. It's a small formal pond, about 700
gallons, tiled with granite. My daughter used half a bottle of
dishwashing soap to clean...

the Prodigal Ponder Returns by
Corey B. Baker
Hi gang,
It's been over four years since I last lurked this board. I naively and
arrogantly believed that my pond was balenced, maintained, and infallible.
Unfortunately, I did not foresee a large tear forming on the bottom of the
deep end of my pond over the winter. Unfortunately, I did not...

Lotus by
Heather
Our lotus has been in the garage all winter with an aquarium heater keeping
it from freezing. It now has a few shoots. Outdoors some nights are still
below freezing. Is it okay to put it out now or should I wait for the end
of frosty nights?
Thanks,
Heather

Cleaned out a pond by
WVNebJockey
I cleaned out and shut down my father-in-laws pond. He's gotten too sick to
tend to it and its gotten a bit run down. I thought I was going to have to
beat back the frogs with a baseball bat. Some were as big as my fist! I
had to laugh at the wife. She was pulling out some Ivy that had...

Shubunkins with barbels by
Dazed & Confused
Hi,
I just got some four-inch long shubunkins from our local fish shop. They
all have quite long barbels. The shubunkins I have had in the past had
no barbels. Is there a type of shubunkin that has barbels or might
these be koi?
Thanks

Barley Straw bags by
Stephen Henning
Last year I bought bales of barley straw from my Ace Hardware. They had
a kit which made 3 bails when decompressed. They had 3 plastic strand
bags to put the straw in. Last year my snails seemed to attack the
plastic strands in the bags and destroyed the top of the bag. This year
I used a heavy...

fine mist sprayer ? by
CanadianCowboy
Hello,
is there such a thing for the pond and water garden world ?
My fish like it when I spray a fine mist from the hose and would
like to have a permanent mist spraying lightly on the pond. Can I build
something like this ?
Thanks !

Need help - suicidal shubunkans by
Elaine T
Help! My shubunkans are jumping out of my barrel pond. I knew I'd lost
a shubunkan over vacation but figured it was ammonia or something.
There was no way to find a corpse in the green water so I didn't know
what happened. I bought three more and put them in the pond on Friday.
All 3 were alive...

Turtle temperatures - did I jump the gun? by
Sue777
Just like I imagine most everyone else, I spent the entire weekend
outdoors getting my ponds into "spring mode". It was wonderful!
Everyone is accounted for and healthy, and it's sooooo nice to have
them back! In addition to the 4,000 gallon koi pond, I also have a
250-gallon turtle pond with...
