"Otto Pylot" wrote in message ... Odd question I know but for the last couple of nights, about 3am, we've smelled skunk really strong. It appears to be coming from our backyard where the koi pond is. Today, we...

frog hibernation by burky
Does anybody know what to do with a bullfrog to help over winter or will they take care of themselves. I heard something about putting dirt in a pan in the pond & they will bury.

Q: Do skunks fish? by CanadianCowboy
I had the same problem two weeks ago and I posted the same question. I know of a skunk in our area but when my fish went missing two days in a row along with potted plants and rocks knocked over I was blaming it on a raccoon. I didn't think that skunks had it in them to be so aggressive. At this...

Wow, there's a rec.ponds? by [email protected]
I'm so surprised ... I had no idea there'd even be a rec.ponds. Well, what can I say about ponds ... I like ponds. Especially natural ponds with living things in them. I don't like so much the artifical park ponds that are stocked only with goldfish or coy, have bridges and a gazebo, and have...

Ping Jan Umbrella plants UK by 2pods
In or out for the winter ? Ponds are only 2' - 2.5' feet deep. As I have no conservatory or greenhouse, if I take them in, can they be treated as a houseplant with no immersion ? Peter

Fill 'er up by Glenn S.
No, not the car's gas tank - can't afford that. We've had a bit of drought here in the Mid-Atlantic and the water bill has been suffering from it due to topping off the ponds. Thanks to the remnants of Tropical Storm Tammy, both of the ponds are completely full now. And the lawn is looking a bit...

pond filters and winter by fire fly
I'm new to ponding and very new to pond filters. I've got a cheap pond filter which incorporates a UV lamp, some foam and some rocks. Water is pumped from the fountain through the filter and back into the pond. I have 7 smallish fish in a 400 gallon pond. My question is this - do I need to keep...

Winterizing questions..a little long by Lisa
Hello, I live in Northern Indiana and have had a pond here for several years. This is the first year that my water plants have been so prolific. I have water hyacinths and parrotfeather that are gorgeous and I can't bear the thought of loosing them over the winter. Is there anything I can do to...

Super Pond Gloves by Stephen Henning
Some of you may remember that I posted on pond gloves earlier and have several different pair. Today I got the ultimate in pond gloves. They are 33" long and reach to my shoulder. They have a strap that holds them up so that you can reach down in water up to your armpit and not get any water in...

a big problem by [email protected]
Hi everyone. I just want to know if somebody can help me. I have a pond in my backyard thats about 3 and a half feet deep. Just recently, my fish started to just jump out of the water. They would land on the grass and die. I would like to know if there is a way to prevent that besides covering the...

Winterizing Pond - Heaters by MC
After much research, I've decided to use solar bubble wrap pool cover floated on the top of my pond and a titanium tube-style heater. The pool cover will have a border of about an inch to allow gases to escape. My questions a 1) How do you use one of these acquarium-type heaters? I would...

Deck Pond Winterizing by Animator
I have a 250 gallon pond on my deck. So winterizing according to zones (6)doesn't actually work since there is no deep spot that stays "warmer". I intend on bringing the plants inside as the fish have never had a problem. What lighting will I need to keep them going in the house?

Missing fish at night by CanadianCowboy
Well my worst nightmare as a pond owner came true when fish have gone missing and plants and rocks have been knocked over, overnight. My guess is a raccoon but it is the first one in 5 years for this new neighborhood. Are there any other animals that feed at night that you know of that would eat...
