Bumps on fish by
Lawrence
Hi All,
Some goldfish (comets, I believe) in our pond have bumps on them. No
fish has more than one of them and there doesn't seem to be any common place
for the bump to appear -- e.g., one fish has one on the side of his/her head
above the gills, another has one along his lateral line down near...

Problem with liner overlay by
Broadback
I am constructing a wild life pond, so purchased liner plus 2 underlays.
Having carefully laid all three, placed some stones and soil on the
bottom I proceeded to fill. Unfortunately the "overlay seems to want to
float, and bellows up from the sides, though I keep pushing it down with
a pole it...

Does the body of dead turtle float? by
dolelyt
I am not sure if my 9" red ear slider has 'escaped' or dead. The pond
has a muddy bottom and quite big. I am just wondering if the body of
any dead turtle float or sink? If they float, then I haven't seen
anything floating so it must be still alive, in the pond (hopefully) or
somewhere.
Thanks...

tiny jumping jumping foating bugs by
Malcolm McRoberts
Hi.
I've got a 1/2 barrel pond with a plastic liner on my porch.
There are some tiny bugs that hang out on the walls of the
liner just above the water line. If disturbed, they jump
onto the surface of the water, where they float and then
return to the side. They can jump several inches. ...

Lightning kills turtles in pond by
Bill Bunn
I had a painted turtle and a red eared slider that had outgrown the turtle
bowl in the house. They were almost as large as the palm of a hand. So out
in the backyard pond (6'x12' about 2' deep, plastic liner) they went with the
goldfish. They were doing very well, sunning on a log and competing with...

Biofilters and Salt level by
[email protected]
Hello,
I have just started a new pond, my first one becoming too small for the
fish. I was advised to add salt to the new pond as a preventative for
stress when moving the fish. However, I have a problem with green water
now, and wonder if the biofilter is effected by the salt, in other
words, does...

kathy
ak!
Noticing 'Kathy' with a captial 'K' showing up
and now 'kathy' with a small 'k' showing up
and that's it. They are not me.
So I'm leaving. I don't like my name being caught
up in this mess.
I wish my rec.ponds friends all the very best.
I'll watch the group from time to time to see

Still got tadpoles with no legs! by
Chainhome
Hello Everybody.
Has anyone else still got taddies with no legs?
I'm a bit worried about them with autumn coming up and temperatures
soon to start dropping.
I would have thought that they should be frogs by now and I was hoping
that there isn't something about my pond that's stopping...

Im trying to find a supplier in Georgia (Atlanta-Athens areas)
thatsells 45 mil EPDM in different sizes. I dont want to pay the extra

New Pond Keeper needs help by
hotpepper
I inherited a pond about 2 years ago in my new house in the south of
England and although it was a nice feature I ignored it until very
recently. Its about 3000 ltrs (650 gals) 2m X 3m X 0.7m and I think
its many years old, I think its made of concrete and has some very
attractive stonework around...

Pond Plants Eaten Overnight by
fanelda
I am stumped! We have 2 smaller ponds, and overnight every one of my
lilypads were eaten off. Also totally gone were every one of the
impatients growing in the rocks on the waterfall. We've had the ponds
for a couple years already. What is going on here? The water
hyacinths and fish are still...

UK - overstocked pond by

We have had our 250 gallon pond for around six years and now 7 Koi in
it - a number of which were from when we built the pond. The pond is
well-oxygenated and well filtered. However the fish have grown
considerably and we reckon there is 84" of fish now which as we
understand it means we have...

I thgout I would introduce myself.... by

Hi all! I just thought I would introduce myself and say that I love the idea
of starting up a pond in my backyard sometime. Seems like goldfish would be
good enough fish for it and am wondering if the pond would need to be
protected with a wire fence to keep out predators like raccoons,...

Can antibiotic food nuke the Biofilter? by
Bill Stock
Somewhat rhetorical I think.
I was cleaning the boys yesterday (pond refugees) and I noticed that their
Ammo-Alert was far from it's pale yellow. It was up in the danger zone, so I
tested with the Ammonia kit and it was reading around 400. YIKES. So I did a
water change and added all the Ammo-Lock...
