Stanpipe or overflox boxes? by Kudzu
Building a new home and I will have a 6 foot long tank in it. Probably a 125G but might go with the a 150G. The tank will sit with one short end on the wall. Leaving both long sides and one short side open. I have imagined this for a long time but it's time to stop daydreaming and start doing...

Recommendation for chlorine/chloramine remover? by Harry Muscle
Could someone recommend a good chlorine/chloramine remover to get, that works good, and is cheap in the long run? I'm thinking I'm gonna stick with a product that just removes the chlorine/chloramine/ammonia and nothing else (ie: no slime coat stuff, etc.). Which means I'm trying to choose...

Help me decide brand of filter and heater, please :) by Harry Muscle
I'm hoping to go shopping for some of the equipment I will need for my new planted 55G tank and I'm having a really hard time deciding which brand of filter and heater to go with. I know I want a canister filter ... they seem to be the best you can get, and I've narrowed it down to two...

Applying urethane to particle board tank stand by Harry Muscle
I'm gonna be buying a tank stand (for 55G) made out of particle board covered in that fake wood looking veneer. There is also some MDF on this stand (ie: in the back, etc.). I would like to protect this stand the best I can, since I know that these materials aren't exactly water...

"Miracle" brand aquarium by Harry Muscle
I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of an aquarium brand called Miracle. I'm located in Toronto, ON, Canada and I've come across a few stores that carry this brand of aquariums, but none have been able to tell me anything more about the company (ie: located, website, phone number). ...

How do you remove the black crud from hoses by Bob K.
Long plastic hose, was once clear.. Now the inside is covered with black (I assume) algae crud .. I've tried running things through to wipe it off, it doesn't work. Running sand back and forth takes out some, but it's tedious and doesn't get it all. Bob

Looking for small multi purpose filter ... by Harry Muscle
I'm looking for a little input on finding a small multi purpose filter ... let me explain what I would like to use it for: First off, I would like it to be able to provide filtering for my 5G quarantine tank. When the quarantine tank isn't being used I'd like to able to store it's filter media in...

Why are Hoods so expensive? by Harry Muscle
Is there a reason why a hood is so unbelievably expensive? I'm hoping to get a 55G All-Glass tank, which is a reasonable $130CND at BigAl's. But they want $150CND for the All-Glass hood (this is the full hood, not just a piece of glass). There's no way a hunk of plastic with a bulb in it...

Quick question about Ebo-Jager Heaters by Harry Muscle
I just looked at a large picture of a Ebo-Jager heater on the web, and it had a line drawn on it with Water Level written just below the blue adjusting top. Does that mean that they are not fully submersible? I thought that you could stick these heater completely under water, but that picture...

Type of ballast in All-Glass hoods by Harry Muscle
I was wondering if anyone knows any information about the type of ballast that All-Glass puts in their deluxe hoods. I'm especially interested in the 48*12 hoods (made for 55G) since I'm thinking of buying one of these and adding more light to it. However, depending on the type of ballast...

Lighting question by Bruce Abrams
I've been keeping Malawi Cichlids for the last 7 years or so and have decided to go back to what I enjoyed best, a planted aquarium with several groups of various tetras, ie. Congas, Cardinals, Rummy Nose, etc. I'll be using a 36 gal. bow front tank for both space and asthetic (read...
