Looking for recommendations for a new light fixture by
Captain Feedback
I've had my Coralife Aqualight fixture for about two years now, and I'm
disappointed to find that the electrical caps (? the sockets that
connect to the lamps) seem to be corroding, to the point where I can't
replace the bulbs without cracking the caps and exposing the lamp pins.
This is pretty...

Lights and anemones by
August West
Hi all;
I purchased a halide/PC fixture for my tank. 2x175 HQI Halides @20,000K and
2x96 Watt Actinic Power Compacts. I was thinking of replacing the Actinics
with 50/50 bulbs. Power Compacts are on one circuit, Halides on another, so
I can set timers differently for these lights. I have an 80...

water change advice by
Bryan
Well I did the water change today, about 30%. What a mess. I thought I'd
ask some "experienced" people's advice.
I have questions like:
Am I the only one using store bought water?!
What do you mix your new water in?
Do you sit there and stir or have extra powerheads doing the trick or is
there...

Feedback on CPR's CS150 overflow by
hh
Hello,
I have spent the last couple of days setting up a 180 tank after having to
move it.
I changed my overflows from using the U shaped siphons to CPR's CS150
overlow and changed the return pump from a MAG 7 to a MAG12. The overlow
is very loud and gurgling - any suggestions to try?
If...

MH bulb question. by
Richard Periut
Hi all, I recently replaced my MH bulb. But the only way the bulb lights
up is by giving it a little screwing pressure. The bulb is screwed in
nicely, but it seems that it needs a touch and pressure to get it
started. It's freaking me out because next week I go on vacation, and I
can't have the...

Scutus by
Patrick
Happy 4th everyone, does anyone happen to know if a Scutus (black sea slug)
can be poisonous to the tak? I found one tonight on a piece of LR, which I
temporarily took out of the tank. I'd like to put it back, but only if it
can't harm anything as I don't know if they can "kill" my tank if...

Critters in tank, what are they? by
Locke Nash Cole
I had a "breakout" of these small white puffy rice looking things that are
kinda mushy and are scraped off the glass easily...
They are also inside my protien skimmer just living happily.
A few of them developed far enough to have some kind of tentacles like a
small feather duster of some sort,...

Brain Coral - Lost Red Coloration? by
hobbes
I have a small brain coral (green middle, red outside edge). It seems
to be thriving (very fleshy) but over the past 2 months the intensity
of the red coloration has dissapeared to almost none. The green is
still strong flouresent, but the red has changed to an almost

180gal setup questions - wet/dry vs sump AND lighting by
hh
Hello,
I have been reading ALOT of the threads and am more confused than ever.
The tank I have is an Oceanic 180 - non-drilled, and has a 1/2" thick
center brace across the top of the tank.
I have had a fish-only 180 marine tank that I had to dismantle due to
some remodeling. That is...

New tank, new web site, coral ID by
Don Geddis
Hey folks,
I've finally gotten around to updating my web site to show the new reef
tank that I started last fall. If anyone is interested, take a look at:
http://reef.geddis.org/
It's got a 192 gallon display, with roughly 250g of total water. I also
partitioned off a section of the display tank...

Migrating Mushroom Corals by
Al Waitz
Greetings-I have a 120G reef tank established about 5 months ago. As a
retiree, I have been patient about adding things and have put in mostly soft
corals and recently 2 clowns, 1 cardinal, 1"exquisite" wrasse, and enjoy
watching things develop.About 1 month after set-up, I added about 75...

Seadrometer looking for new home (UK) by
[email protected]
Waterlife SeaDrometer looking for a good home. Bought, then had second
thoughts about having a marine aquarium, never got a chance to use this
hydrometer. This one is the lead-weighted glass-tube type. Asking for
£4.00 p/p inc. in the UK or 6.25 EUR for rest of Europe (would have
been less if it...

brown diatoms to green algae question by
Bryan
I have a green algae question.
I have a fairly new reef tank. I got the normal brown diatoms that lasted
just less than a week then it all turned green.... and the green grew fast.
Is this part of the cycle? I read that once somewhere, but I cannot find
any other reading supporting that brown...

Salt in tank by
R J
Hello group!
Is it Ok to take the salt that forms on the glass at the top of the tank and
drop it back into the tank??? I would think that this occurs naturally ! Is
the evaporated salt different than the mix??? I think it might be.

Light simulation, best solution? by

So I just bought a nice set of Power Compact 15k blue, 15k white lights,
with built in moonlights (also have a few moonlights I already had to
manually position them better)... and I've seen other posts where people
phase in lighting one by one however my new light does not support turning
on the...
