Barnacle problems? by
Chris Grohl
A number of years ago I had a 100 gallon reef tank. I had a pretty typical
setup, wet-dry filter, large home made skimmer, some kind of auxillary
power-filter & secondary skimmer combo thing hanging on the back, about 5 or
6 floresent tubes. This was my first venture into reef aquaria. My...

Frozen food by HIKARI by
Pszemol
Have you tried their MEGA MARINE yet?
I have purchased it because HIKARI was always working
for me if we speak about fish food, but I am dissapointed
with this particular purchase. First - they look very "processed",
I have a feeling I am feeding with dried pellets soaked in water.
And when I thaw...

911: Damaged skimmer need advice by
TW
I broke the center tube in my ETSS 500 skimmer while cleaning the unit
this evening. It fell onto the floor and snaped in two. I can order a
new one from the manufacturer but it probably won't arrive until Tuesday
of next week at the earliest. To make matters worse I am going out of
town for the...

Remora pro w/mag and skimmer box users.. question by
chad
I seem to have a problem with the screws that tighten the skimmer box to
the mag...there to short, I even had Jason at Aqua C send me some a
little longer and they still don't tighten against the mag like they
should? Anyone else have this annoying problem? Its become troublesome
to make sure some...

Hitchhiker ID by
PaulB
I think the two lower anemones are Aiptasia pulchella or mutablis and
Aptiasia Palida. The ones that looks like a bubble tip I can't identify.
The white tube is probably an encrusting sponge. I have quite a few
white sponges and some encrusting sponge.

Pistol Shrimps - Are the really as loud as they say? by
Dragon Slayer
the one's I have had in the past have all been quite loud IME I can hear
them at the other end of the house which is about 65' from the tanks.
its not a distractive sound thought and is not a "bang" sound but more like
a "click" sounds a lot like the glass of the tank cracking.

"REVENUE AUDITED" stamp on packages... by
Pszemol
Recently I placed two, consecutive orders for 200 gallon IO salt mix buckets.
One from BigAlsonline.com, the second from PetSmart.com Both buckets had
a regular UPS shipping label stamped in red ink with "REVENUE AUDITED" text
and a bunch of numbers. There was a reference to New York city or state...

Ice Probe + 7g Nano = Perfect Temp by
richard reynolds
FAIW ive never liked TEC bassed chillers for reducing the temperature, I do however like
how they hold temperature. I also had one on my 7g nano I just recently tore down the
tank, but it was never a problem.

Good Reef Book? by
Go Gators
Can anyone recommend a good book on reef keeping that is fairly detailed
with examples of setup? I have the Reef Aqaurium book by Sprung and
Delbeek, however it does not go to in depth about the actual setup of a reef
aquarium. They talk about numerous methods but no real hard data of what
would...

iodine exposure by

Has anyone had trouble with exposure to an excess amount of iodine with

anywhere? I regularly dose my tank with iodine for my xenias and put my hand
in the tank frequently. I have recently found out that my Thyroid is...

Initial Impressions: Pacific Coast C-050 1/2 hp Chiller by
Chief Ephor
hi.
Sounds like they have some really cheap temperature controller. They need
to mention the 4 degree delta in the spec on the web...
Anyway, I wonder if the problem described below has to do with close
proximity of the output and input to the chiller. So where in the tank is
the chiller input...

Question on MH ballast by

Is there a big difference in the power used by the different types of
ballast?
Bulb life, heat given off by the bulb...

I think most around here consider the Seaclone kind of crappy, but some have
used it and felt it was just fine.. I *think* I read something about they
had kind of "re-vamped" it somehow and it might be better now. On a larger
tank though you might need something better. And another bit of advice...

Any body use these? by
Acrylics
Has anyone here used this type of canister filter on a reef tank - Ocean
Clear Canister Filter. Any info appreciated.
I wouldn't use one on a reef tank, but I've used them on several other systems
and recommend them highly on the systems I spec out. Very good filter, forget
the one with the...
