Potassium Test Kit by
Nikki Casali
Can anyone recommend an online website where I can obtain LaMotte's
Potassium Test Kit #3138? Forget the UK. I'm interested in outlets in
the US so that my brother in SF can possibly obtain it.

FloraPride softening water? by
dfreas
I was adding FloraPride to my tank today via my usual method of pulling
half a gallon out of the tank, mixing in 10mL of FloraPride and then
dripping the water back into the tank again. Half way through I decided
to see if the FloraPride was raising my GH any out of curiosity. To my
suprise I found...

Fluorite woes by
Elaine T
I'm awfully glad I tried Fluorite in my 2 gallon tank before setting up
the 15 gal. I like to plant my stem plants Amano style, in single stems
with tweezers. This works fine in the 2-3 mm gravel that I've always
used. In Fluorite, the medium is so light that it doesn't hold the
stems down. The...

driftwood question by
DNT
I have a piece of Malaysian driftwood that I want to put in my aquarium. The
sender suggests soaking it for 2 weeks. A book I have suggests boiling it.
My question is this: I've boiled the wood for 20 minutes and am prepared to
let it sit for 2 weeks, but do I change the water or just let it sit in...

Nitrate supplementation - right solution for my tank? by
Elaine T
I mentioned in an earlier thread that I redid my 2gal betta hex as a
"real" planted tank. Before I had Mayaca and Rotala indica growing on
ambient sunlight and UGF. Shoulda left well enough alone, but I wanted
to grow something in the foreground. Not enough light was making it
past the tall stem...

Help Identifying Insect by
Aaron M
While cleaning my tank today I came across what I would assume to be
some sort of insect larvae which must have came in when I got some new
plants a few weeks ago.
It was about 3/4 of an inch long and looked kind of like a centipede.
It's body was translucent. It had "glued" together a few leaves...

Red Cherry Shrimp - Cheap? by
Shagster
Anyone know where I can get some Red Cherry Shrimp.... Cheap? AZ Gardens
has them for $4.95 each, and I've heard about some issues with them shipping
carelessly, and charging a small FORTUNE.... Anywhere else?

Toronto/lights/cheap by
Richard Sexton
NOTE: I'm not selling lights. Please read this carefully.
Somebody in the "tor.forsale" newsgroup (articles for sale in
Toronto Canada) is trying to dispose of some HID lamps very
cheaply. This is probably of interest to aquarists in the
Toronto area. Posting to rec.aquaria.marketplace may not be...

Fluourite - Boy is my tank cloudy by
Elaine T
I saw this fab 2 gal planted tank at LFS and it inspired me to yank the
UGF from Squishy's 2 gallon hex and put on a Red Sea nanofilter and
Fluorite substrate. Lighting is a 14 watt 5500K spiral compact
flourescent that seems plenty bright over a tank this tiny.
But OMG - I rinsed and rinsed my...

Watching nutrient levels by
I3 I L L
Hello, Greg Watson's PMDD formula should be arriving Monday and I was
wondering how should I go about measuring the nutrient levels? I
already have a test kit for nitrate but what about other nutrients?

Fish Diseases(off topic) by
I3 I L L
I have 2 rainbows that have these large patches in which their color is
getting litter. It is like a white film over their scales. I have seen
numerous diseases but this one I cannot identify. One fish has already
stopped eating and is just hovering behind my vals. I did a complete
analysis of my...

Two Tanks by
Charles
I have two ten gallon tanks. One is generally choked with
Vallesneria, in the other one I can not get Vals to grow at all, the
roots die off.
Same lights, same water (Hard tap water) same substrate (pottery clay
beneath commercial aquarium gravel).
The only difference that I can identify is that...

Phosphate reduction, and plant growth? by
Scott
I started using rowaphos a while back to try to control the algae in
my aquarium.
the tap water were I live is 2.5ppm and I have read that even levels of
0.5ppm can cause problems. so when I first tried using rowaphos I put a bag
filled with it in my filter and left it there, and it reduced the...

Sold as Aponogeton crispus, definately isn't by
Cichlidiot
I recently purchased what had been sold as young Aponogeton crispus at a
local, well-known store. At the store, these bulbs had very short leaves
on them that I assumed at the time were due to the fact that almost all
the substrate of the 10g tank they were kept in was covered in bulbs so I
thought...

phosphate by
spiral_72
I'm trying to rid my aquarium of excess phosphate. I have tested
everything I put into my aquarium, peat, carbon, tap water, food, ect.
The phosphates must be from the gravel/substrate. I'd always thought I
had excellent cleaning practices. However, in an attempt to rid my tank
of everything...

Monday update, the planted tank on Sycamore by
steve
A veritable Tarzanian jungle if I don't say so myself. This is so much
fun! http://aquaria.info/members/ervis/Feb27.html
I still measure nitrates and phosphate so I can tailor my fert dosing
to achieve the proper NPK ratio. I seem to get enough phosphate from
fish food so I don't dose that. I...
