Coconut shells by
Dave S
I've cleaned out the fruit from a coconut and boiled the shell. I plan to
put this in my tank for additional shelter. Before I do has anyone any
experience of doing this. Any feedback most welcome.
TIA - Dave

Gravity dripper (IV drip) by
Bill Stock
I decided to try the IV drip method for fertilizing my plant tank, after
reading about it here. So I headed off to my favourite junk (surplus) store
to see what they had in medical supplies. I found a FLU VEN 0160 for $2.95
CND, which is rated at 20 drops per ml. I was hoping for 60 drops per...

Plants Dying! by
MP
Hi everyone ... we bought an aquarium for our school about 6 months ago and
everything's been going swimmingly until this last couple weeks. There were
duckweed growing crazy ... I kept thinning it out with a net ... and several
leafy plants growing anchored to the substrate. Then 2 weeks ago I...

Need More Light; Hood Options? by
Benign Vanilla
I have a 55 Gallon setup, that is typical of what you get at Petsmart. It's
about 4.5 feet long, maybe 18 inches deep. It has two hood lights. I
recently moved to live plants, and some are doing well, but some are not.
For example my Amazon Sword Plants seem to be starving. My gut tells me...

Retroactive Quarantine? by
[email protected]
I've recently setup a new 55 gallon tank. I let it run for a while,
then stocked it with a bunch of plants and three tetras from my LFS.
Yesterday, I read on the skepticalaquarist.com a strong argument for
quaratine for new fish, and for salt and parasite treatments, and for
treating plants as...

Looking for plants in WI by
John >
I am looking for a good supply of plants in Central Wisconsin. The local
LFS in infested badly with snails, and who knows what. So many the plants
look brown. And the variety is limited to one type.
In a nearby city, the chain Pet Stores don't have a clue what they have, and
neither do I. ...

Complete aquatic plant fertilizer for fishless tank? by
Elaine T
Does anyone know of a complete aquatic plant fertilizer that could be
used in a fish-free bowl? I want to start growing some java moss and
hornwort for a pond I'm planning. PMDD looks close, but it lacks
phosphate and I suspect is lower in nitrate and potash than I will need.
TIA!

I want to give his stuff a try but unclear on which formula to buy.
What is the difference between PMDD Pre-Mix and CSM+B Plantex? Should I

Pongol? by
Ozdude
I bought some new plants the other day and silly me didn't get the botanical
name of it.
It just had Pongol in chinagraph pencil on the tank glass. I bought 4 of
them.
When they were in the tank I noticed they propagate by runners like Val., so
I separated the runners and planted them out.
Then,...

Substrate by
Danielle
I've just transformed my 29 gal tank into a planted tank. Added CO2,
lights to make 2 wpg, but I didn't change the substrate. I have just
plain aquarium gravel right now. Will this do OK? I'm assuming there
are plenty of differing opinions, but any suggestions would be helpful.
And can I do...

Onyx Sand vs. Eco-Complete? by
Troy Bruder
Hello,
I considering re-doing my planted tank.. This time, I want to use TRUE
planted tank substrate.. I really like the look of a "sand-ish" substrate,
but also want something that's going to reduce the amount of fertilizers I
need to add on a regular basis.
Any thoughts on Onyx Sand vs....

South American Cichlids with which plants... by
deancoo
Hello all,
I'm really frustrated. I have a 90 gallon tank with about 20 Convicts (some
large, some small) and one large Texan. The problem is that they seem to
take pleasure in uprooting and destroying anything I plant. I really would
like to add some greenery, but these damn guys won't quit. ...
