bulb recommendation.. by
Phil Williamson
I've got a 20gal tank with two 15watt bulbs on it (two separate light
fixtures), 1 powerglo and a sunglo.
Now, my LFS told me the best light setup would be to put two powerglo's in
there, what do you guys think? I need to replace both bulbs shortly and I
want to get it right the first...

Fish recommendation by
Victor Martinez
Hi. I'm looking for recommendations for a few small fish for the
following tank. It's a 20g long with an eclipse hood, heavily planted
with fluorite substrate. It currently houses lots of amano and cherry
shrimp, zillions of MTS and a couple of small Botia kubotai (I think
they're still there,...

Ecology experiment - suggestions ? by
Limnophile
I'm going to try the ecosphere idea again, and I'd like some suggestions, or
corrections if anything written here is a bad idea.
I plan to use an old gallon jar ( 3.8 liters) with a tight-fitting lid, a
cup of pond mud, a cup of used aquarium gravel, about a dozen leaves of
duckweed ( Lemna minor)...

Plant fest only 3 weeks away by
[email protected]
This year's plant fest is only 3 weeks away and is looking like it'll
be better than last year's success.
We will visit The Center for Aquatic Weed research which is a top
research facility. I'll also try and see aboyut talking to the park
manager down at Rainbow so we can see the invasive Crypts...

A month ago, I thought one of my plants had been burned by too much
light. It was dark brown/black on the top of the ferns. It had the

it to a corner of the aquarium hoping it would do better, fool me. At
the same time, I...

which nitrate test kit is the best?? by
Dave M. Picklyk
I've been having a really hard time trying to decipher my NutraFin nitrate
test kit results. The color chart is basically a light to dark hue of
purple...the water in my test tube looks more like a fuschia/pink bright
color which doesn't match anything. I usually pull the test tube back a...

Ecology experiment - Day 1 by
Limnophile
The container I chose is 2 1/2 gallons, almost-clear plastic, tall and
round, with a lid that will seal tightly when the time comes. 2 1/2 gallons
should be large enough to avoid temperature swings, considering the
container is next to a large aquarium in an air-conditioned room. The total
water...

Using a DIY CO2 generator (yeast and sugar mix), Will this make a good
CO2 Reactor
instead of just releasing the CO2 via airstone, the co2 airline is fed
into a small inverted soda bottle filled with holes on top (500 ML,
thats about 12 inches in height) and is filled fibreglass ( the...

How many watts per gallon with metal halide lighting by
Scott Rogahn
I would like to set up a 55 to 100 gallon planted tank (I already have a
planted 20 gal) To maintain 3 wpg florescent or even power compact seems to
be a bit difficult, 8 4ft florescent tubes for 100 gal. So I think metal
halide may be a better choice. Does the 3 wpg gallon rule apply to...

If so, any...
