I am a student at Derby university in the UK studying Product Design
Innovation & Marketing, I am in my final year and for one of our final
projects we have to design a 'simple pond' for a large British
company. If it is at all possible i was wondering if anybody was able

Starting a small pond. by
Pip
Hi all,
We are wanting to have a pond in our garden, only a small pond say 3 foot by
4 foot, if that. It is not for keeping fish in, but it would be nice to
have either toad or frog spawn and to grow some plants in etc etc. There
will be no running water feature - just still water.
I realise...

Neighborhood Animals and an outdoor pond? by
Ron G
Hi---
I am thinking of making an outdoor pond, including goldfish.
But the neighborhood is loaded with free-running cats, plus racoons and
possums.
What do people with ponds do in that circumstance?
Is a pond even possible, with goldfish and all?

move fish abroad by
Hadewych
Anyone any advise on how I could move 8 goldfish - I know it's quite
silly but they do have sentimental value :) - (quite small, the biggest
one is only 15 cm) abroad? They have to go by van overnight - say 24
h - I don't suppose I will be able to take them by plane?
I was thinking of putting...

Hey all,
I've been reading the posts here since I put my pond in last spring. I
cannot tell you how much a newbie appreciates all the great advice that is
spread around. I'va already started planning my extension for next spring
and the construction of my veggie filter.
This will be my first...

Something is taking bites out of the goldfish by
Rodney Pont
Something is taking bites out of the goldfish in the pond. Two have
died and about half of the others have wounds.
We've emptied the pond and repotted all of the plants. We removed all
of the sludge when the pond was empty and sieved it to see if we could
find anything. We've washed and inspected...

Hurricanes and fish by
Roy Lasris
All my big koi (6) died in Hurricane Isabel (we live in Virginia, along the
stretch where the storm hit the worst) . All the small ones survived.
(Big=15" Small = 3 to 6")
Two of them were dead by the morning after the storm, so I don't think it
was oxygen starvation. (They have survived much...

roses by

Hi,
I need some help with a problem I am having with my rose bushes. They
are planted in a sunny area where they get enough light. But I get
very few blooms and the leaves have black spots all over. Also, on
another rose bush something seems to be eating the leaves. Are the
black spots a...

to many fish... by
Ben
Hi, has anyone got any good suggestions on getting rid of an over
abundance of fish. Baby's, baby's, baby's. After several years we have
just to many fish, makes it tougher to keep pond healthy, there must be
over 30+. It's really hard catching them and there are so many. The Koi
don't seem to have...

Belive it or not, it's about my pond by
Yorkshire Pudding
Hello,
Dug my very small (about 8' x 4' x 18") about a year ago, put some
frogspawn in it, it hatched, infested the neighbours gardens (but they
don't have slugs now). Also put a couple of Sticklebacks in it, they
bred, got a fantastic collection of pond snails. Today I had I

Wintering by
Lily55320
My small garden pond is new this year. I have a few inexpensive goldfish, lots
of Water Hyacinth, and a Water Lily. Would building a coldframe to cover it be
enough to prevent significant loss? Or will it be neceessary to move plants
and fish inside for the winter? Thanks much.

Algae by
Lily55320
I used no chemicals in my new pond this year, not really knowing what I was
doing (flying by the seat of my pants). It now has serious algae growth. Is
this normal or should I use chemicals to curtail it?

Pond depth by
A Davis
Hello All
My pond is 5 feet in diameter, with a maximum depth of 22 inches.
This seemed to be the sort of size indicated on my pond liner instructions.
However, I recently read that a pond of depth less than 3 feet is
insufficient for fish to survive the Winter when the Pond freezes.
The pond...

I've just put up plans on a site for a low budget external pre-filter for
small to medium ponds, particularly aimed at amateur or novice pond owners
in the UK, although the principles are generally applicable anywhere.
