Transfering koi to a new pond. Good time for a salt bath? by scs0
Soon I will be transfering my koi to a new and larger pond. They seem healthy right now, but since I'm going to have to capture them and put them into a small container to adjust them to the water in the new pond I was considering using this as a chance to give them a salt bath too. I was...

Pump flipping breaker... :-( by Reel McKoi
My 1200 gph pump is flipping the breaker. AAARRGGGHHHH! It's a thermally protected Beckett. How is water getting to the "juice?" I don't suppose they can be fixed - anyone? I had to scramble to hook up a 500 gph just to keep the water moving. :-( -- McKoi.... the frugal ponder... ~~~ ...

NEED SOME POND ADVICE by The Space Boss
Hello, I recently moved into a new place that includes a large pond on the property (I'd say it is approximately 15 ft by 25 ft and deep), and there are maybe a couple hundred goldfish in there. I have been feeding the goldfish flake food twice a day, and they seem to be doing fine. I have not...

catching a heron by kathy
From the ESPN/bassmaster website Weirdest catch Veteran Ohio pro Joe Thomas vividly remembers accidentally hooking a blue heron. "I was fishing boat docks in Old Hickory Lake with a jerkbait, and I made a long cast," Thomas recalled. "Just as I made the cast, the heron flew out from behind a...

aquatic life by Snooze
This past weekend I did my spring pond cleaning. As usual i found the few dragonfly larva, a few snails. Found a colony of daphnia hanging out in a pot, which got me to thinking. Has anyone seen planeria in their pond? I know my pond probably has a few, i've looked for them, but never found any. -S

water lilly question by Alex Woodward
I have a Lilly from last season. It is 2.5 foot under water, and still has one leaf left from previous growth. I pruned the rest away after they deteriorated last late autumn Is it a wise move to remove this last pad, which hovers around 1 foot below the surface, in order to encourage the...

great quote of the day by Birchy

Snow finally melted and fish still alive! by dkat
This winter was so strange (no snow and warm most of the winter and then snow storm on top of snow storm). I neglected putting in my airstone to keep my pond open when it was so warm and then the first storm hit with so much snow it was impossible to do anything at all. So for the entire month of...

How to clean out a deep settling tank? by [email protected]
I'm planning a new pond and stream and have the following problem figuring out how to clean out the gunk carried away from the bottom drain. In short, it's going to be 5' underground where I can't just open a valve and drain it off. The distance from the bottom drain to a bio filter at the head...

best way to fill in pond and sell koi? by an old lurker
We inherited a 600 gallon pond with waterfall and 12 small koi when we bought our house. We've also got 16 month old twins. We're planning to fill in the pond with rock and keep the water feature until the boys are much older - then maybe we'll try fish again. Our local pond store suggested...
