Proximity of pump to filter by
bk
We have a 1200 gallon pond shaped as a half donut, the pump flow rate is
1000 gph at the filter. How important is it to have the pump and filter on
opposite sides of the pond?

Best type of food(Floating Catfish Food) by
[email protected]
I am looking to where I can get me cheep fish food. I am sure that
since my gold
fish are outside and get bugs that fall in the pond that catfish food
wouldn't be a
problem. It isn't like I have some of those expensive KOI.

OT Halloween Safety Tips by

Halloween Safety Tips (yearly favorite)
I'm sure that you've all seen these rules before and really,
they're just common sense. But since we're coming up to that
time of the year, I think it's wise to review them. Something
about this time of year can play havoc with otherwise...

File this under "I Spoke to Soon" (The Heron Cometh) by
Benign Vanilla
The CFO called me in a panic from the basement. I cam running upstairs to
find her and all of the kids gaping out the window. The biggest dern Heron I
have ever seen was sitting on the swing set drooling over the pond. The CFO
was telling the kids to be quiet and keep still, so they wouldn't scare...

Do I Need to run the pump 24/7? by
Oxymel of Squill
I wouldn't turn it off overnight. Mine is on a timer, on for about three
fourths of the time; 45 or 60 mins out of most hours during the day and 15
or 30 mins each hour overnight. I did it originally to disrupt any permanent
current that might be set up. I read somewhere that the bacteria in...

Earthquake in Japan by
RichToyBox
I haven't seen anything posted on rec.ponds about the earthquakes and the
damage done to the koi farms in Nigata, but you may want to look at this
post by Peter Waddington on the NI board. It has lots of pictures so may be
slow for those with dial...

Intermittent Sand Filters by
Edward
I have been reading some about ammonia, nitrites, algae etc. and it
appears that no effort is made to maximize the removal of ammonia
using filters for fish pond owners. I have been doing some research
on the removal of nitrates for individual (home) wastewater treatment
systems for...

running very slow, so I cleaned the enire filter and it still ran slow. Then
I found a something jambed within the connection between the hose and

One of my older goldfish is displaying odd behavior and I don't know what to
make of it. First he's swimming, alot, and he's wriggling like a worm, with
seeming great effort to move about. He's skimming the surface and will mouth
food, but doesn't seem to be able to take it in. Sometimes he...
