Pond Overflow by
I was wondering how many people consider having a overflow pipe for their
ponds??? Mine is 4 -inch pvc pipe and it goes underneath my waterfall where
you can't see it. Even with hard rains the excess water flows away from
the pond and it never overflows. I have known pond owners that don't have...

? Brown water by
Steve \(Dart\)
Hi all, this is my first year with the pond. We had a ton of pollen landing
on the ground last week and than the air temp went up to 32*C 90*f (had to
use my converter calculator) anyway, now my water is brown and very hard to
see into. I can only see about 5-8cm (2-3 inch).
I think is a...

Test Strips are Good by
Benign Vanilla
OK, before you jump on my back and shove my head in the pond, let me explain
where this epiphany came from.
I use liquid test kits for all of my parameters. My wife bought a test strip
kit for the pool. I think it is perfect for the pool, because it allows
quick and easy testing. I dipped one in...

string algae reference by
Ka30P
Some of our rec.ponders have used and liked String Algae Buster so I went and
looked it up on google. Found this article at
http://www.nfkc.info/barbels008.htm
and it said that it works by -
" forcing the strands of string algae to take in excess calcium from the
surrounding water. When the algae...

How good is the Nexus filter? by
Jeff Davenport
I am in the process of building a new pond (approx 4,500 UK gallons
and a single single bottom drain).
I am attracted to the Nexus 300 mainly for its small footprint and
comparatively low height. It does seem to be horrendously expensive
for what you get though and including the 'Answer' virtually...

Caring for Water Lilies by
Daniel Phillips
Some simple questions about water lilies, please, in regards to my
container water garden that still has living fish in it after three
months:
1) I hadn't topped the water in the container for awhile, since
thunderstorms are expected all throughout this week. At what point in
a water lily...

big pond, initial plans... a picture by
RainLover
Hi everyone,
I've put up a really basic picture of my initial plans for the first of three
ponds for our 'sculpture park'. There will either be a moon bridge to the
island or I'll have a bridge I can move away after a sculpture is installed in
that location.
It's a brand new web site for forgive...

Barley Straw plea... by
Gareee©
Ok, 3 local feed stores, and no barley hay anywhere here. No barley balls at
lowe's or Home depot. One Farmer insisted to me that normal straw would work
fine, but reports here indicated otherwise. (and of course, he gave me that
"farmer who hates a city slickers who thinks he knows more then I do"...

strange 'algae' by
Ka30P
I have three deck tubs going.
One with cattails, one with a small tropical lily :-))
and one with rush and a society garlic.
Last year this middle tub developed a strange algae
form.
It is a fairly firm brown jelly like blob.
Each one is separate from the others. It starts
out small and then gets...

Cicadas, Frogs and Gigantic Tadpoles by
Benign Vanilla
We had a birthday party for my son this weekend for the neighbor kids.
Pretty soon they all ended up back at the pond, when my brother realized
that the frogs go crazy for cicadas. They were hoping out of the water
trying to these things from us. It was very cool.
On another note, I think I...
