Fish dying by
JGW
In the last month, I've found two of my goldfish in my outdoor pond
dead. The water chemistry is fine except for the hardness being too
low. I added a bunch of dolomite lime almost a month ago after the
first fish died, and the hardness is improving, although the pH today
was still on the low...

Lotus Pot Size by
Heather
Will a 20 gal tub be large enough for a lotus tubor with one leaf, and one growing point? The diameter at the base of the pot is about 16".
How deep should I make the clay?
Thanks,
Heather

Pump height question by
DavesVideo
Say a pump is advertised as able to deliver 1000 gal/hour at say a height of
6". I would guess that it means 6" above the surface of the water rather than
the bottom where the pump sits. Is this true? Doesn't seem to make sense any
other way.

is this Rubra? by
Tippi
I bought a N. pygmaea Rubra that has 3 buds. The photos I've seen of
this plant are bright red, but my flowers are pinkish violet. Is it
really Rubra? please see the pics at

frogs by
Tony McCabe
I installed my pond last summer/fall and I didn't have any frogs last year
whatsoever. This year I have taken at least a dozen frogs out of there and
I keep getting more in there. I noticed some eggs on one of the plants and
I took the plant out and cleaned it before returning it to the pond a...

dribbly fountain by
Martin Merritt
I have a concrete fountain with a frog which "spits" water to cascade
down several concrete "leaves." Water tends to dribble around the
bottom of each "leaf" instead of streaming down to the next lower leaf.
Water flow looks good -- any more and it would overflow. My wife has
tried putting...

Polyethylene beads in UK by
Rodney Pont
Anyone know where to get polyethylene beads for a filter from in the
UK?
Preferably somewhere near North Yorkshire.
Expanded polystyrene ones are easy to get (bean bag refills) but I
suspect they are too buoyant to clean easily.
I've also been looking at water butts to put them in but they all...

Spooked Fish by
Jazzman
My wife and I went away for a week, only
to come home and find my fish hiding on the
bottom of the pond, between pots, etc.
I suspected a heron was on the prow, but
had no proof until my wife saw him fly away
a couple of days later. It doesn't look like "Mr
Heron" was able to snag any fish but I...

chipmunks?? by
*muffin*
I saw chipmunk(s) around my pond today.
his is highly unusual to see chipmunks or squirrels here inour yard.
(this is strange out here, even though we are in farm country, have a lot of
woods on over 16 acres, I rarely see these critters, I saw more in the
suburbs back yard!)
soooooo what damage...

Onion bags to hold bio media? by
Webfoot
Hi
I been lurking here for several years but this is the first time my
question hansen't been answered by just reading the posts.
I plan on going to the dollar store to buy various kinds of bio media.
I want to put this in mesh bags of some sort to make it easier to
clean. Will the red mesh bags...
